James Whittington: Artistic Director
James hails from the south of the country. All of it. He’s lived in the likes of Thomson, G.A. to Columbia, S.C. He spent his summers in Ozark, Alabama shooting rifles, playing bottle-rocket tag (that’s when you throw fireworks at each other), learning to drive his Grandmother’s Cadillac at 13 (at her insistence), and playing in helicopter graveyards. If you guessed all that moving around was the result of his dad being a district manager for five-and-dime stores, you’re correct!
James’s theatre background is in directing and writing. He’s the head writer and director for the short play/sketch group PennyBear – which Nina Metz of the Chicago Tribune and Newcitystage.com placed in her top 5 list of comedy shows of 2008. His direction of The Fowler Family Radio Hour at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival garnered the review, “Maybe we should be offended, but it’s pretty damn funny”, by the Charleston City Paper. Finally, he is a performer and creator for New Beast theatre company, exploring dynamic and inventive original theatrical experiences.
He has only one solid belief in anything and that is, “If you’re not cursing when you talk, you probably aren’t passionate enough about the subject”.
This is his first season as Artistic Director for Rubicon Theatre Project.

Scott Allen Luke: Managing Director
Scott hails from the tiny map dot of Lena, IL. It’s in Illinois, but not quite Wisconsin or Iowa. Growing up in such a small town, Scott was able to call himself both an athlete and a theatre guy, splitting time in school between golf, basketball, bowling & track and theatre & choir. During his junior year in high school he and a friend quit the basketball team so they could broadcast the games, doing play-by-play and color, on the school’s cable station. He also faked an injury during the sectional track meet his senior year of high school to go to a collegiate choir rehearsal that would later result in him singing in a Brahm’s festival in Carnegie Hall (no joke, he still has the performer badge to prove it).
Scott holds a BFA in musical theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. As an actor, Scott has performed at theatres all over Chicago. His favorites are DEFIANCE with Next Theatre, Lifeline Theatre (where he got to play a 10-year-old girl and an annoying parrot…in the same show), Circle Theatre, Light Opera Works, Raven Theatre, The Mill Theatre Co., Lincoln Square Theatre and Chase Park Theatre. Scott has also appeared on-camera in several commercials, short films, and the feature film Secrets of the Clown. Chris Jones and Hedy Weiss, at two separate times and for two different shows, called him “appealing”…whatever that means.
As a writer, Scott has written several short plays and sketches, and is currently finishing his adaptation of Brad Listi’s novel Attention. Deficit. Disorder. Scott has directed 2 full productions for Rubicon and a short play in each Kassi Fest to date.
Scott is a founding member of Rubicon Theatre Project and currently serves as Managing Director.

Jeromy Spraker: Company Member
From Racine, WI, Jeromy once was Scott Caan’s stand-in for the filming of “Ocean’s 12.” On set one morning, Jeromy was talking to his dad on his cell phone, and George Clooney walked past him, took his phone, and into it barked, “It’s fucking cold out here,” and gave the phone back to Jeromy. True story.
